3 Compasses to 21st Century Education
These 3 compasses were developed by Anne Shaw when she was a classroom teacher. She created them to support her whenever she was developing a new unit of curriculum. Although she had a rubric, it was long and detailed, and she wanted a one-page, quick glance item. At first she created Critical Attributes of 21st Century Education; realizing she also needed one for the Multiple Literacies for the 21st Century, she created the second compass. Then, in 2008, after reading Tony Wagner's book, The Global Achievement Gap, she created the third compass - 7 Survival Skills for the 21st Century.
These 3 compasses may be utilized from the board room to the classroom, from policy planning to lesson planning. Anne also discovered, upon visiting a school one time, that the compasses were being used in the classroom by students!
