McLaren received his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Educational
Theory from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education
at the University of Toronto, Canada, in 1983.
He served as Associate Director of the Center for Education
and Cultural Studies, Miami
University, Ohio.
Current research interests include post-colonial and
postmodern theories applied to curriculum development and
instruction; critical social theory and cultural studies in
the development of approaches to urban school reform; the
development of pedagogical theory and practice based on
critical multiculturalism, critical ethnography, and
critical literacy.
