Funding

1.  Federal Funding for Professional Staff Development

Title I, Part A School Improvement

Title II, Part A Teacher and Principal Training and Recruitment/Retention of Highly Qualified Staff

Title II, Part D Technology Enhancement

Title III, Part A Bilingual Education

Title IV, Part A Safe and Drug Free Schools

Title V, Part A Innovative Programs

Most of these programs have staff development components that can receive funding, especially Title I, Part A and Title II, Part A. Principals or Curriculum Directors should be able to approach the Federal Programs Directors or Coordinators in the district and ask if these funds are available. Many districts allocate funding at the campus level to contract with consultants. Consulting fees are funded through contracted services which are noted in the 6200s budget line items. Usually a consultant is coded 6219.

Every district by law must set a certain amount of funding aside for professional development.

2.  Funding Smaller Learning Communities
