COOKING SHOW
To do this
project, have the students:
1. Recipe -
Research recipes they would like to prepare.
2. Analyze
Cooking Shows - Watch several sample cooking shows in order to analyze the
format, etc. I strongly recommend the show
Good Eats
with Alton Brown.
It is aired on the
Food
Network. You may also purchase their shows on
DVD at the Food Network. Some schools have them in their library. They are
excellent resources. I recommend this show because Alton Brown doesn't just
cook, he entertains and he teaches! When you watch his show, you not only get a
recipe with directions, you have lessons in the history of the recipe AND the
ingredients; he includes lessons in geography, chemistry, physics, nutrition,
botany, and so forth.
3. Research -
Research everything they can about the history, science, math, of the recipe and
the ingredients.
4. Videography and
Filmmaking - Study some techniques on filming - they will need to know about
camera angles, lighting, sound, editing, voiceovers, special effects, music and
so forth. Television production and filmmaking are excellent projects for
students. They are highly motivational, and they lead to an enormous growth in
media literacy, an extremely important 21st century skill. Contact us if you
need assistance with resources, or if you would like to have a workshop at your
school on how to do videography and filmmaking in the classroom.
5. Formatting -
get these onto a DVD
6. Marketing -
sell the DVDs and send the profits to your favorite fund.
