Self-Directed, Independent and Interdependent Learning
Thematic units on this
web site include these basic strategies which students need in order to
work independently, interdependently and self-directed. The first few
weeks of each school year are spent learning these strategies. While
some teachers balk at taking the time to teach these new procedures, the
students are learning them while proceeding with the research for their
first unit. It doesn't take long to learn these new habits, and once
the students have learned them, my advice is "Get out of their way!
They will work almost completely independently once they know the
routine. First we will review the basic strategies used regularly in
the unit plans. Following these basic strategies you will find links to
