Budgeting Professional Development

Professional Development . . .

can consume a large portion of a school district's budget.  21st Century Schools offers the following methods for stretching those Professional Development dollars:

    Sponsoring Multi-District Conferences:

Get together with other districts to host a multi-district conference on the theme of your choice.  21st Century Schools has the resources to organize this event for you, and it will be based upon the unique interests and goals, vision and mission of your district.  Sharing the expenses with other districts is a fantastic way to not only save money on staff development, but it is possible to host such a conference - around a theme with several strands - at no cost, and possibly even a profit!  Now is the time to schedule your multi-district conferences for the 2005-2006 school year.  Call to learn more and to schedule your multi-district conference in advance!

Educating the Educator:

This method of staff development entails having our consultants work with a specific group of educators in your district, training them to then conduct professional development for the rest of the district staff - creating the ability to utilize expert outside resources combined with the cost-effectiveness of in-district trainers!  This stretches your professional development dollars much further than having outside consultants conduct the full course of in-district training.

Summer Institutes:

Summer is a great time to send groups of professionals from your district to intensive professional development experiences.  Here, they have more time to work and learn, and their students are not left with substitute teachers.  Your professionals are able to totally focus on the learning experience at hand.  This is a great time to enroll in those professional development opportunities which are more time-intensive and simply cannot be served adequately by sporadic, short-term workshops during the school year.

As an added treat, we are scheduling these Summer Institutes in various locations to appeal to a variety of tastes and needs:

  • Bringing the entire family - theme parks, beaches, mountains, resorts

  • Historical Significance - make the trip do double duty as you explore nearby museums and historical sites you don't have time to get to during the school year -  Washington, D.C.,  Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, etc.

  •  Relax -  for those seeking a peaceful retreat and a serene environment - deep in the quiet of a beautiful wilderness location.  Refer to our page, The Whole Teacher.
